wrap the mind like a well used water hose then put it away

warm today, that summer humidity absent the sun growing distant sending softer light

leaves exploding, fading, blowing away

delay delay the leaf blowers and seasonal landscaping, let the dirt sleep a nature slumber

like here at the coffee shop – leave us the simple pleasures of existing

sitting thinking about the desperation of previous days, memories detached and blowing in the breeze

of one more October

self-care tips for rivermen as communicated via carrier pigeon from the wharf possum

the trick: swim with the hours, let your Circadian rhythm syncopate with the waves and the early rising moon.

allow yourself one non-healthy treat a day, a candy bar, a cookie, a cold beer after work. eat an apple or a piece fruit each day.  drink plenty of water

and drink your coffee black.  allow yourself to sleep. read and, when possible, look for signs: feathers left by angels, the blue heron, the egrets, the carp and catfish jumping. schools of minnows near the hull.

breathe and know you are breathing.

Saturday morning is a rockabilly country song

this note left hanging in the air being able to sleep in beside you warm as the house takes on an October tempo. there is a verse or two of coffee and bacon and wrapping my arm around your waist the scent of your hair is sleep and citrus and I would in this moment crawl into your skin for safety and warmth, but the chorus sings for the river the smell of deisel and currents shimmering under moonlight.
