2022, Ohio River Valley Literature, poetry, winter

never left

you (re)find
the dirt oceans
all snow, fallow ice
you, refound, they do
deep drifty currents
and today again today
you think ‘Maybe ’cause
it worked for on Galilee’
and step out: the storm
does not cease and yes
you you still sink
and the drowning is dry
almost like a memory.

from our heads

this morning before
the ice these old
plaster walls hold
the cold hide the wet

road tunes

driving 75 mph up I-65 from Nashville
radio tuned to a rock and roll station still out of range

every song that doesn’t quite shake through the static

sounds like either “RADAR Love” or “Comfortably Numb”
