Getting Ready for Baltimore

I keep thinking about old Master Kong, beginning his latter wanderings in his 57th year: disgusted by kings and emperors chasing power instead of service, airy monuments instead of deep foundations. Disgusted by the world but hopeful. I must find strength in the god of the road and the river and the mountains, venerate the royal road dogs and draw on the strength of ancestors of the spirit.

Here: I go.

I’m not as road ready as once I was
it takes me longer to think
about my pack, longer to think
about what I will need
and what I will trust to the road
and what I will trust to the road
will be everything
because it will at some point
I hope, bring me home.
