against the coming day

she sleeps against the coming day
and I lay here grateful for the passing rain

these moments, like a passing rain
in an early, unforgiving August

so few and far between like a late summer rain
we soak them up like starved dust

desperate for more, starving for one another
praying for relief against the coming day

Day 111, 2023

the witching hour is 4 am
currents winding round the abstract hours
marked by uninvented clocks

says to self, self this is an apology
for mistaking ye as human
in the sense of that abuse called time

Day 9, 2023

Soak up the sunshine and move forward
the tired machine. Do not count the clock.
The entire apparatus moves to 6/8 time, but we
count only in measures of four. Dead center
is somewhere in the high water mud and driftwood mural.
