winter has gone and hoisted the rag
the first high water prognostications
the captains muttering ’round the scaffolding
to hold up the stage
only so much planning can be done and it is
what with tonight’s high wind predictions
keep your eye open for white caps on the river
and know you are only as good

Day 2, 2024
the brisk night air carries day old dreams
still fresh enough to consume
no secret landings of birds out in the channel
to report and tug traffic is slow
the 2nd Street Bridge traffic,
a molasses of the hour moving
back and forth waiting
for that hint of the sun to melt
into more stale routine programming
holidays as pre-cruise check
this wading back in / a plan
forward / this fish pulled
in all directions / the kavals
half-hitched against
strong cross-currents
dragging out up under away
